• Understanding adaptation and making a strategic response: The TCPA is a leader in planning for climate change adaptation. Through the TCPA-led, EU-funded GRaBS Project, which works on good practice in climate change adaptation in eight countries, we have developed Adaptation Actions Plans, High-Level Political Statements, SWOT analysis techniques, and a wide range of best practice examples on how to plan for extreme weather.
• Raising awareness and focusing on solutions: The TCPA is a leading organisation working to forge rapid and realistic solutions to the challenge of climate change. Our work has included establishing the cross-sector Planning and Climate Change Coalition. The recent draft Planning Policy Statement (PPS) on a Low Carbon Future in a Changing Climate is a testament to the impact of this campaign. 
• Community engagement: Through our work on the EU-funded APaNGO Project (Advocacy, Participation and Non-Governmental Organisations in Planning) – which was one of the first EU action research projects on community participation in planning and development and which has been developed further through the GRaBS Project to focus on adaptation – the TCPA is able to advise on community engagement techniques to help deliver sustainable development on the ground.
• Impartial technical advice: Through the TCPA’s series of best practice guides for sustainable communities, such as Sustainable Energy by Design and Climate Change Adaptation By Design, we have demonstrated our capacity to deliver impartial, practical and user-friendly information. 
• Demystifying the role of planning: The TCPA understands that the interface with planning is often confusing and complex. We are acknowledged experts in delivering technical guidance to non-planning audiences in an accessible way. We deliver training using communication techniques that provide a mix of case studies and practical guidance.
• Professional team: The TCPA has key skills in communicating climate change through a principled, expert but accessible approach. Our team is experienced in climate change, planning, communications, training and local government at all levels. The TCPA also has a wide network of experts to oversee policy work at a high level, and who are available as a sounding board.
