Government announces TCPA Chief Executive appointed as IPC Commissioner

At the TCPA national conference yesterday the Rt. Hon. John Healey MP, Minister for Housing and Planning, announced that TCPA Chief Executive, Gideon Amos OBE, will be joining the Infrastructure Planning Commission as a full time Commissioner at the beginning of March 2010.

Speaking about his new appointment Gideon Amos OBE said:

“After nearly 10 years at the TCPA I will be sad to leave but I am absolutely delighted to be moving from the TCPA to a new and challenging role as an IPC Commissioner. The Infrastructure Planning Commission will be in the front line of planning and delivering our responses to a changing climate, to the energy crisis and to the need for better public transport. I am looking forward to working towards such an important objective.”

“Over its 110 years the TCPA’s vital campaigning on the nation’s housing, environmental and climate challenges has inspired its many members, volunteers and staff, with whom it has been a privilege to work for nearly a decade. I know the Association’s team, led by Sir Peter Hall, Lee Shostak and the senior staff, offers a formidable force to take us towards our shared goal of decent homes, stronger communities and a sustainable future - through planning.”

Gideon joined the TCPA as Director in September 2000 and became Chief Executive in 2006, in that time he has overseen the Association grow in size and influence, leading the debate in innovative policy development around housing, sustainable development, climate change and community empowerment.
