In the context of ongoing uncertainty about next steps with the Westminster Government’s proposed radical reform of the planning system, and following COP26, the TCPA’s Annual Conference will consider what we need the planning system to deliver for the future, and whether the proposed reforms will help achieve outcomes which are better for people’s health, are democratic and will also help deliver the country’s carbon commitments.

The TCPA has long believed the planning system can be transformational for people, communities and the environment. It does need to be reformed and we need to get it right. But this conference will also be an opportunity to consider other changes, outside of the statutory planning system, that might be needed if we are to deliver places in which everyone can thrive, including through considering examples from the devolved nations
