Everyone is talking about using land values for public benefit but what does this really mean in practice?

Is this any more than chasing after fools' gold?  What methods are available? Where do these values come from and who is entitled to them?

Join us for an introduction to the nuts and bolts of Land Value Capture

This short introductory course reveals the basic mechanics of land value capture and provides information about how it might work in different local circumstances. This includes:

  • An overview of the full range of approaches - from Section 106 agreements and the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) to Compulsory Purchase
  • Understanding the barriers to delivery - from development viability to paying landowners for 'hope values'
  • An introduction to the current debate on the best way to capture and share land values through the development process.

The course is designed for practitioners, elected members and non-planners to support a better understanding of one the most contentious and important aspects of the planning system. No prior knowledge of development economics is needed.

Training will be provided by Dr Hugh Ellis, TCPA Policy Director. Light refreshments will be in included.
