Over the past few years the NHS Healthy New Towns demonstrator sites have aimed to shape the health of communities, and to rethink how health and care services can be delivered as new places are built and take shape. The programme offered opportunities to unite public health, NHS providers and commissioners, planning and housing development to plan and build healthier places.

The objectives of the demonstrator sites were to develop best practice, case studies and guidance to help ensure all new housing developments embed certain principles, promoting health and wellbeing and securing high quality health and care services.

The TCPA has been at the forefront of shaping the debate around reuniting health and planning and contributed to the forthcoming NHS England publication ‘Putting Health into Place’, which elaborates on the 10 Healthy New Town Principles and showcases the learning and innovation from the Healthy New Towns Programme. This seminar will build on this learning to hear from those involved in the programme and explore how new large-scale developments can implement these principles.
