This 2-day tour will explore past and future innovations in the design and renewal of neighbourhoods and new communities through key projects in Yorkshire and North East England. The tour will start at 10am Wednesday 11th September at York railway station and end by 5.30pm Thursday 12th September back at York railway station.

We are developing an exciting agenda* which so far includes:

New Earswick, York – Gateshead Innovation Village – Newcastle Upon Tyne (Byker, Ouseburn, Newcastle Gateshead Quayside) – Smith’s Dock, North Shields – Peterlee – Derwenthorpe, York

Key themes to be explored: Garden village design and stewardship, lifetime homes/sheltered housing, modular construction, ‘smart’ homes, estate regeneration, community engagement and placemaking, town centre renewal, new towns (stewardship/design/renewal), design codes, community energy production/district heating, eco-homes.

Please note: visits to New Earswick and Derwenthorpe will include additional learning on issues such as lifetime homes/energy/design which was not included in the 2017/18 ‘Understanding Garden Villages’ Tours.
