SUMMARY:Creating age-friendly\, inclusive homes and communities
DESCRIPTION:The UK’s population is undergoing a massive age shift. In less than 20 years\, one in four people will be over 65. The Centre for Ageing Better’s vision is a society where everyone enjoys later life. The safety and accessibility of our homes is key to our health\, wellbeing and social connections as we grow older. \n\n\n\nAs part of their strategic partnership with the Greater Manchester Combined Authority\, the Centre for Ageing Better has partnered with Manchester School of Architecture on a new approach to understanding the housing choices of those in their 50’s and 60s. \n\n\n\nThe Rightplace research project builds on their previous work\, ‘Rightsizing: reframing the housing offer for older people’ and confirms there is a significant gap between people’s ambitions and the housing choices available to them. The research provides a fresh perspective on older people’s housing needs and choices and the potential policy options that are likely to be most effective in improving choice – both locally and nationally – to create places which support healthier and more enjoyable lives for more people.  \n\n\n\nCreating change will require collaboration from local planners and central government to housing providers and the third sector. DESCRIPTION:Launch of new resource on the role of planning in flood and coastal resilience\n\n\n\nThis free event will launch the new video resource produced by the Environment Agency and Town & Country Planning Association which breaks down and explains the role of Town & Country Planning in flood and coastal resilience.   \n\n\n\nFlooding is among the most serious impacts of climate change. It has devastating and long-lasting impacts on people and their communities\, as well as major impacts on our economy. If existing development trends continue in line with projects population growth\, we expect to see a near doubling of properties in the floodplain in the next 50 years.   \n\n\n\nThe new film outlines the steps that can be taken through Town & Country planning to enable sustainable and climate resilient development.
