SUMMARY:Building resilient large scale new communities
DESCRIPTION:New Communities Group Webinar\n\n\n\nNew development must be built to withstand the challenges of climate change that will hit us over the next century. It must be designed from the outset to avoid and manage the flow of excess water and protect communities from the risks of overheating. Large-scale new development offers particular opportunities to deliver resilient communities\, including considering climate adaptation in the overall design and layout of development\, ensuring all homes are appropriately ventilated and resilient to flood risk so that future retrofitting is unnecessary and integrating green infrastructure throughout the development to provide shade to people and buildings.   \n\n\n\nThis webinar will explore the ways in which new development can be made intrinsically resilient to the impacts of climate change\, including discussing the critical importance of site selection\, the role of sustainable urban drainage systems and how to address the risk of overheating.   \n\n\n\nThe latest addition to the TCPA’s suite of practical guides for creating successful new communities will also be launched at the webinar.   \n\n\n\nProgramme10:00 Welcome and introduction from the ChairJim Davies\, Strategic Environmental Planning Lead (Climate Change Adaptation)\, Environment Programme Team\, Environment Agency; TCPA Policy Council    \nSession 1: Flooding \n10:10Flood Re and the insurance problemKatherine Greig\, Head of Transition\, Flood Re\n10:20 \nTechnical solutions and SUDS Louise Walker\, Project Manager\, CIRIA  10:35\nQ&A \n \nSession 2: Overheating \n10:50Technical overview on overheating in new buildingsGwyn Roberts\, Homes and Communities Lead\, BRE11:00 Case study – Managing overheating – policy and practiceEmma Davies\, Principal Sustainability Consultant\, Greater CambridgeShared Planning Service  11:10\nQ&A \n11:25 Launch of new Garden City climate adaptation guide  Jessie Fieth\, Projects and Policy Manager\, TCPA     11:30Close\n\n\n\nThe webinar is essential for councillors\, developers\, consultants\, business leaders\, council officers\, community groups\, architects and designers\, students and anyone who is interested in the future of design of new communities.  \n\n\n\nThis is a New Communities Group webinar.
