SUMMARY:Creating age-friendly\, inclusive homes and communities
DESCRIPTION:The UK’s population is undergoing a massive age shift. In less than 20 years\, one in four people will be over 65. The Centre for Ageing Better’s vision is a society where everyone enjoys later life. The safety and accessibility of our homes is key to our health\, wellbeing and social connections as we grow older. \n\n\n\nAs part of their strategic partnership with the Greater Manchester Combined Authority\, the Centre for Ageing Better has partnered with Manchester School of Architecture on a new approach to understanding the housing choices of those in their 50’s and 60s. \n\n\n\nThe Rightplace research project builds on their previous work\, ‘Rightsizing: reframing the housing offer for older people’ and confirms there is a significant gap between people’s ambitions and the housing choices available to them. The research provides a fresh perspective on older people’s housing needs and choices and the potential policy options that are likely to be most effective in improving choice – both locally and nationally – to create places which support healthier and more enjoyable lives for more people.  \n\n\n\nCreating change will require collaboration from local planners and central government to housing providers and the third sector. That is why we have brought together this exciting group of speakers to highlight current inspiring approaches from across the UK\, and to collectively address the question: ‘How can we create age-friendly and inclusive homes and new communities?’. \n\n\n\nAgenda10:00WelcomeJulia Thrift\, Director\, Healthier Place-making \, TCPA10:05Introduction to the session and Ageing Better’s ambitions for age-friendly homesHolly Holder\, Deputy Director of Homes\, Centre for Ageing Better10:15The importance of planning for an ageing populationJoanna Averley\, Chief Planner Department for Levelling Up\, Housing and Communities10:25Age-friendly strategy development in regeneration of towns and citiesPaul Quinn\, Director of Regeneration\, and Sarah Mitton\, Age Friendly Communities Manager\, Clarion Housing10:40Findings and recommendations from ‘Rightplace’Dr Mark Hammond\, Senior Lecturer and Prof Stefan White\, Professor of Architecture\, Manchester School Architecture11:05Q&A11:25CloseJulia Thrift\, Director\, Healthier Place-making\, TCPA\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nClick here to register free\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSupported by:

SUMMARY:Rising to the climate change challenge? - the essential role of local authorities
DESCRIPTION:TCPA-APSE research 2022 – online launch\n\n\n\n\n\nAPSE and TCPA are hosting the launch of the their eighth joint-publication on research into housing and place-making. Over the years\, this series has charted the housing crisis and provided recommendations to local and national government on how to create high-quality places and homes\, based on original survey data\, case studies\, and expert interviews. \n\n\n\nThis year’s report looks at the role of local authorities in relation to planning\, housing and climate change. It highlights important work already being undertaken by local authorities and hopes to inspire further action from local authorities. However\, as the Net Zero Strategy recognises\, significant barriers remain. This report seeks\, therefore\, to better understand some of those barriers and makes recommendations about how they could be overcome. \n\n\n\nThe report includes the results of a UK-wide local authority survey\, as well as case studies of successful initiatives. As well as drawing on the analysis of that survey\, during the session we will discuss the key barriers councils face\, and hear the views of expert panellists. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAgenda10:30Welcome from the ChairMo Baines\, APSE\, Deputy Chief Executive10:35Introduction to the publicationPaul O’Brien\, Chief Executive\, APSE10:45Research findings and recommendationsFiona Howie\, Chief Executive\, TCPA  11:05The Swansea Standard – direct delivery of energy efficient homesCllr Andrea Lewis\, Joint Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Climate Change and Service Transformation; Chris Cutforth\, Building Services\, Swansea Council11:20Response to reportCllr David Simmonds CBE MP\, Chair\, All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Housing and Planning11:30Audience Q&A session with panel12:00End\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease select the number of tickets required before clicking ‘Get Tickets’ \n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease contact Cova Cervilla if you have any further questions or require assistance. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOrganised in partnership with:

SUMMARY:Planning for the climate emergency
DESCRIPTION:Launch of new resource on the role of planning in flood and coastal resilience\n\n\n\nThis free event will launch the new video resource produced by the Environment Agency and Town & Country Planning Association which breaks down and explains the role of Town & Country Planning in flood and coastal resilience.   \n\n\n\nFlooding is among the most serious impacts of climate change. It has devastating and long-lasting impacts on people and their communities\, as well as major impacts on our economy. If existing development trends continue in line with projects population growth\, we expect to see a near doubling of properties in the floodplain in the next 50 years.   \n\n\n\nThe new film outlines the steps that can be taken through Town & Country planning to enable sustainable and climate resilient development. It is aimed at local planning authority officers and elected members in England\, as well as planning school students and anyone else with an interest in planning for flood risk. \n\n\n\nAgenda12:00Welcome from the ChairFiona Howie\, Chief Executive\, Town & Country Planning Association12:05Introduction to the projectJulie Foley\, Director of Flood Risk Strategy and National Adaptation\, Environment Agency12:15‘Planning for the climate emergency’ video screening12:25ResponsesAdam Gardiner\, Committee on Climate ChangeJoanna Averley\, Chief Planner\, Department for Levelling Up\, Housing and CommunitiesHannah Bartram\, Chief Executive Officer\, ADEPT13:00End\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nClick here to register\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOrganised in partnership with:
