TCPA Responds to Prime Minister’s speech at CPC 2022

TCPA Chief Executive Fiona Howie has responded to the Prime Minister Liz Truss’ speech at Conservative Party Conference. She said:

“It remains unclear what the Prime Minister’s speech might mean in practice for the reform of the planning system, but it is disappointing that once again the implication seems to be that the planning system is a barrier to growth.

If Ms Truss wants to create more communities like Bournville, then places will need to be planned in detail over the long term, and the wellbeing of people will need to be prioritised.

If we are to level up the country, we need regeneration that is good for communities, the environment and the economy. Deregulation is a major gamble that risks development that undermines all of these in the medium term.”
