About the vision
This vision is centred around participatory democracy; to be successful, new towns must be developed with, and for, local people. The vision is designed to help communities consider and express what they want from new towns, and to aid them in fighting for the quality developments they deserve.
Drawing on decades of the TCPA’s work, this document shows how the next generation of New Towns are much more than a means to achieving housing targets; they are about enabling people to live happy, healthy and sustainable lives. These places have the potential to become vibrant and inclusive communities where people not only live, but thrive.
At the centre of our vision is the belief that local people know their area best. That’s why it is designed to be a powerful tool for local communities, planners, and policymakers. Helping the general public to shape future new towns in their areas and ensuring they meet the communities’ needs and aspirations.
We hope this document will be a call to action to reimagine what’s possible for the next generation of new towns and enable local communities to demand high-quality, healthy and sustainable places.
