Chief executive Fiona Howie to leave the TCPA in the spring

The Town and Country Planning Association (TCPA) has today announced that its chief executive, Fiona Howie, will leave the organisation in the spring of 2026 after seven successful years in the role.

Chair of the TCPA, Andrew Pritchard, said:

‘During her time with the TCPA, Fiona has been a key advocate for the visionary role of planning and placemaking, while also working tirelessly to make sure the organisation can look forward to a sustainable future. Through her work to develop and implement our strategic plan, she has helped clarify and articulate the TCPA’s ’s purpose in the 21st century, and its unique role within the built environment sector.

‘The Board of Trustees is incredibly grateful for her strong but also calm leadership, not least through the pandemic, and she will leave the Association in a very strong position. She will be very much missed.

On a personal level, it’s been a delight to work with Fiona during my time as chair of the Association, and I am hugely appreciative of all the hard work she has put in.’

The TCPA chief executive, Fiona Howie, said:

‘It has been an honour to have led the Association for the last seven years and all that the brilliantly talented staff team have achieved during that time. I am clear that planning can be transformational. That’s why I am so proud of our work, including projects that have supported and empowered communities to play an active role in the future of their area and our campaign to embed health and wellbeing in plan making.

‘My deep thanks go to colleagues, Trustees, funders and the wider membership for their support.

‘My main priority in the coming months is to continue to drive the organisation’s work programmes forward, while also supporting the Board to secure a fantastic new chief executive. It’s an exciting time for someone to shape the Association’s next chapter because creating healthy, sustainable and resilient places that are fair for everyone is as important and relevant today, as it was when the organisation was created more than 125 years ago.’
