Vacancy: Communications Manager

The Town and Country Planning Association (TCPA) is looking to appoint a Communications Manager to grow our profile and increase the impact of our work to create sustainable and resilient places that are fair for everyone. At a pivotal time for planning and placemaking in the UK, this new role is an exciting opportunity to lead the development and implementation of a communications strategy for one of the UK’s leading campaigning charities as it enters a new chapter.

We are looking for an experienced communications professional who combines strategic thinking with hands-on delivery. You will be a confident media operator, an excellent writer, and a skilled communicator able to translate complex policy issues into compelling content. You will have experience developing communications strategies, building organisational profile, supporting campaigns and influencing activity, and using digital channels and data to maximise impact.

The Communications Manager will work closely with the Chief Executive and Management Team to support the delivery of the Association’s Five year Strategy and raise the profile of the TCPA’s projects, campaigns and activities. The postholder will be responsible for the management and delivery of the TCPA’s day to day communications activity, working with the team to expand our audiences, and shape the TCPA’s approach to communications to enhance the organisation’s work.

Our current priorities include campaigns on climate change, reuniting of planning and health, securing a stronger voice for people in planning, and creating exemplar communities to help deliver the homes we need in new and renewed places. We do all of this underpinned by Garden City principles, which aim to achieve a socially just and sustainable society.

The role will be based at the TCPA’s office in Sustainable Workplaces, at County Hall, in Waterloo, London. The TCPA supports flexible working and staff in full-time posts are encouraged to work in the office at least two days a week.

This role is full-time with a permanent contract. The annual salary will be between £47,000 – £52,000 depending on experience.
