Webinar recording: Climate Guide launch 2023

This resource is part of a collection called Climate webinars.

This is a recording of a webinar launching the 2023 edition of the TCPA and RTPI’s
joint guidance for local authorities on planning for climate change. The guidance provides a summary of the legal and policy requirements for planning for climate change (both mitigation and adaptation) for plan making and development management.

The launch saw contributions from a range of speakers sharing their reflections on the urgency and opportunities of planning for climate change in the current context, and we heard about Cornwall Council’s ground-breaking Climate Emergency Development Plan Document. The TCPA provided an overview of the key updates to the guide.

Speakers included:

Joanna Averley, Chief Planner, DLUHC
Richard Blyth, Head of Policy, Practice and Research, RTPI
Robert Lacey, Planning Policy Group Leader, Cornwall Council
Anne Chataigne, Transition Policy and Impact Manager, Flood Re

During the event, questions were asked regarding the evidence work required to support strong climate change policies and local standards for new homes in Cornwall Council’s local plan. The evidence base is available at Climate Emergency Development Plan Document (DPD) – Cornwall Council.

This event and the guidance itself were made possible thanks to the generous support of Flood Re.
