This guidance document is aimed primarily at planning officers and equality officers, and explains how councils can better ensure that the assessment of the impacts of planning policy on reducing inequalities and promoting equality feeds into planning policy development in a meaningful way.
The guidance is structured around five sections:
- Positive planning for equality and inclusion
- The Equality Act 2010 and the public sector equality duty
- Defining the scope of Equality Impact Assessments
- The Equality Impact Assessment process
- Key considerations within Equality Impact Assessments
This report was developed as part of the ‘Planning for inclusive communities in London’ project. This was an 18 month project, supported by Trust for London, which ran from mid- 2018 to late 2019.
The project had two key objectives:
- To research how local planning authorities in London are embedding equality and inclusion in planning policy.
- To lead a programme of training and engagement events with communities and the public sector on how the planning system can better contribute to tackling poverty and inequality.
