08-02-19 — Fiona Howie has started in her role as chief executive of the Town and Country Planning Association (TCPA).
Fiona was previously chief executive of the Campaign for National Parks and before that head of planning at the Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE).
The new chief executive was announced at the TCPA’s annual conference last year (22 November 2018), taking over from Kate Henderson who led the organisation for almost a decade.
Fiona Howie, chief executive of the TCPA, said:
“I am delighted to have taken on this new role. The TCPA has a long and established history and it currently has a fantastic opportunity to draw on its knowledge and expertise to help shape a new generation of places based on garden city principles, helping to deliver much needed homes.
“The TCPA’s work, making clear links between the role of planning and people’s health, mitigating the impacts of climate change and promoting the value of place-making, all illustrate the environmental, social and economic value of a planning system that enables appropriate development that is in the public interest. It is essential that we have a planning system that is fair and equitable and works for people, whether they live in wealthy suburbs or areas of high social deprivation which are in desperate need of regeneration. An important part of a system that delivers this vision is the ability of the planning system to prevent poor quality, dangerous development.
“I look forward to working with the incredibly talented staff team, the board and the TCPA’s members to maximise the impact of the organisation and its important work.”
